With or without the Printmaking Workshop, Capileira
and
Las Alpujarras region,
especially in the Autumn are delightful!
Capileira is the 2nd highest village in all Spain, with Trevelez around
the eastern flank the highest. We sit on the highest mountain in the
entire Iberian Peninsula, Cerro Mulhacen
, located inside the
Sierra Nevada National Park
, and
by the bird approximately 15 miles to the Mediterranean Sea.
Capileira sits as the highest village on the southern flank in the
Barranco Poqueria.
Further up the road public access within the National Park by
automobile ends.
For bicyclists, the terrain and the peaks offer the highest ridable
pass in all Europe.
Capileira is a happy and safe place, receiving thousands of tourists
throughout the year.
It is a rural location with stunning, spectacular, and amazing views!
The pueblo village offers many restaurants, local specialty shops,
chocolatiers, cheesemakers, pharmacy, groceries, and cultural events
throughout the year.
Sheep, goats, horses, mules, cats and dogs are common throughout. Birds
are prominent, we sit at approximately 5000 feet with Africa not too
far away. The varying elevations of Mulhacen, the deep Barranco
Poqueria, and the higher zones offer a wide range of habitat and
migration stopovers.
Capileira is the gateway into hiking the mountains from the southern
location. Views of the Mediterranean, and on a very clear day, the
coastline of Africa can be seen from our vantage point.

You will find Capileira enchanting, the Hotel Finca los Llanos
welcoming and comfortable, and
our property offers a peaceful and inspiring location!
Please dispel all thoughts related to not having creative or artistic
talents!
You could also dispel thoughts related to whether printmaking is your
passion.
We believe you will find the creative process during this time a joyful
experience, and we can all use more Joy!
TransARTlantic Eksperimentum, our studio and home, is located at Uno
Calle Romana in the oldest and lowest part of the village.
Access is walking only, from Finca los Llanos approximately 380' of elevation.
This is an ancient village, cars are kept to the main road and a few
areas for parking. Otherwise, it is walking only.
There is little flat ground and streets uneven.
Our location at the bottom of the village offers unobstructed views.
Our property is different in the pueblo in that it is not connected to
another dwelling and that it has a large terrace and garden space. We
also have water running through our various terraces thanks to the
Moors.
The Moorish history
is
everywhere in the region and in my view one of the main attractions.
We have kumquat, pomegranates, cherries, walnuts, bay, almonds,
chestnuts, apples, persimmons, and more.
October offers a bounty of harvest and the locales work this into the
amazing Alpujarran food.

How you can expect your days to flow
Saturday evening we host a Welcome Reception at our property.
Sunday morning you will enjoy breakfast at Hotel Finca los Llanos.
Workshop begins at TransARTlantic Eksperimentum at 10:00 am daily,
lunch break approx 1:30, finishing 5:00 pm.
Wednesday is considered break/free day.
Lunches served at the Workshop.
Finale group dinner, evenings are free for your exploration.

Our Print Studio
Our printmaking studio is unique for sure. It would be hard to imagine
another studio with the location attributes we have.
Our studio offers the equipment and tools to work across most any type
of printmaking methods. We offer digital workflows for photogravure, a
Poly Metal etching press, several relief presses, UV, intaglio, relief,
aquatint, and more.
The studio is equipped with a variety of supplies for other Art forms
that often are included as part of printmaking.
The workspace is relatively small and is best kept with numbers
floating about 6 people, it depends on the methods we are working with
as well the time of year.
Our large terrace allows us to expand outside.
We work with water based inks and use as much non-toxic methodologies
and products as possible.

Do I need to speak Spanish?
The Workshop is taught in English.
While Spanish is spoken in the village the people are accustom to
visitors from all over the world with English being the translator
language.
Most restaurants have English menu versions.
That being said, it is always appreciated if you make an effort.

Hotel Finca los Llanos
We have partnered with Hotel Finca los Llanos
.
The Hotel Finca Los Llanos was created in 1990, since then it has had a
great reputation for its customer service. Located in the heart of the
Alpujarra, in the surroundings of the Sierra Nevada National Park,
which has been declared a Biosphere Reserve and Heritage Site by
UNESCO, the hotel has become one of the favorite places for tourism in
the Barranco de Poqueira to rest and enjoy nature.

The staff are outstanding!
The grounds are lovely, and Restaurant Gloria
is open for breakfast,
lunch, and dinner offering superb food. In season the terrace offers
magnificent views, cocktails, tapas and lunch al fresco.
There is also a salt water pool!
